First, You are not alone. There are literally millions of people in this world experiencing panic attacks and are not sure why or where they can begin to get help. It’s estimated in Canada alone over one million people suffer from this problem, ranging in age 15 and up.. Sure, I recognize your objection that It would be embarrassing to discuss your problem with someone else.. Certainly that’s a valid objection. However one should consider Would you want to go through life being limited by this problem or do you want to achieve a measure of success over it by tackling it head on.. Additionally, think about How disappointed you would feel if there was reliable help available but you never investigated it.
Second, embarrassment does not stop you from doing other things that improve the quality of your life. Third, think of the possible accomplishments that could come from gaining some mastery over your panic attacks. Maybe things such as giving presentations before groups. Maybe having the focus of the party on you for once without feeling awkward or breaking out in cold sweats. Or taking that job that seems out of reach because of the uncomfortable situations it would put you in. Plus You’re an adult, no one will do it for you and no one can make you do something you don’t want to do.
Fourth, As an example of the upside of getting help, let’s consider driving an automobile for a minute. There are many reason one might decline the opportunity to learn to drive. They may think about the fact they could have an accident one day and injured their self or someone else. Or worse they may have an accident that causes a death. Short of that they may get a ticket. Or they may have to pay the cost that goes along with owing an automobile. But really we just don’t think that way. When it comes to driving we think about all the positives. I’ll have my own transportation and the freedom that goes along with it. I won’t have to depend on someone else for a ride, and the list goes on. In like manner there are many valid reasons for seeking help with ones panic attacks.
And fifth, life is short so start now turning your life around for the better. That’s right far too many people hold themselves back from doing what they know they should because of fear or plain old procrastination.
