Observation Training
By Molly Larkin
As part of my training, one of my teachers had me spend an entire day doing nothing but observing from early morning to evening. I had to sit in a field all day long without moving my body — he told me to just move my eyes very slowly from side to side.
What was I observing? What direction is the wind coming from? Does that cloud seem to contain any large amounts of moisture? Is it dark on the underside and light on top? If so, perhaps it’s going to rain.

Ninjutsu training is not like modern mma or mixed martial arts, in that there is a common philosophy and set of principles and concepts which underlie all ninjutsu More >
Situations, Structures, and Strategies
Military strategy is a set of ideas implemented by military organizations to pursue desired strategic goals.[1]
Modern Combat Martial Arts is a school of martial arts which gives individuals the opportunity to learn unarmed combat strategies. Similar to military strategies, in unarmed combat there are ideas which need to be, first understood, then implemented in your Kung Fu (Practice). These form the basis of strategies which are then applied to reach desired goals, with an extremely high degree of consistency.

Martial Arts for Modern Times
When I was growing up, my martial arts heroes didn’t come from the Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris era. I was born a bit after that, so I had a perhaps lesser known set of silver screen stars filling my head with imaginings. The classic BloodSport, Kickboxer, and Lion Heart movies from JCVD were at the top of my list. In these movies, each of his characters portrayed the classic martial arts story. The wise master who only teaches a handful of people teaches Van Damme, giving him superior fighting abilities, essentially crushing the competition. The master would always teach some unusual More >
Training for Intense Combat

Typical skill sets range from Brazilian Jujitsu, Judo, usually combined with Muay Thai Kick Boxing, Tae Kwon Do, or some other “stand-up” styles. But there are big differences with what people are actually training. There is a major choice a practitioner has to make before stepping one foot inside a studio. In fact, the decision itself can eliminate many schools from your options, so ensure you give this some thought. The question is this:
What is the objective of your martial More >
