Learn To Speak a New Language – 6 Tips
Study Frequently and Regularly
Try to study at least 30 minutes to 1 hour a day. It helps to use an audio program or software as opposed to studying 4 hours once a day. It has been proven that spreading your study time out is better for retaining the information you have learned.
The best way to do start out with a new language is to start with the basic vocabulary from the language you are trying to learn. Practice with flash cards.
Set Realistic Expectations
Realize that it is going to take time to learn a new language and pace yourself. There is so much to learn and complete mastery will take years. However, you can get a good headstart and a good foundation by daily study. Realize that it is going to take a while and don’t give up.
Try Watching TV Shows or Movies
If you are want to learn a new language faster, one thing that really helps is to regularly watch movies and tv shows that you have previously watched before in the new language you are trying to learn. If you are watching a movie or show for the first time then you can add subtitles to help you learn the meaning of some of the words you don’t understand. Doing this over and over can really help you get used to the sound of the new language and help you get in the habit of thinking in the new language.
Try Writing Things Down in Your New Language
It really helps when learning to speak a new language, to try to express yourself in the new language. You can also write down important vocabulary and even write about your daily events from your life in that language. Eventually, you will become fluent a lot faster by sticking with it. Remember though, simply listing out words you don’t know won’t help you unless you practice using these words with a friend or partner.
Communicate With Others In The New Language
Try to find resources online to meet people who speak the language you are trying to learn. Engage in discussions online, commenting and asking questions. This will make the studying process much more engaging than just memorizing because you will be learning the new language in the process of trying to understand what people are trying to say to you.
The most important thing is to be consistent and when you are too tired to study, just listen to audio tracks or watch a movie in the new language that you are trying to speak.
