Today, I would like to help you take a look at how to really manage your time effectively. In this age, we all have the PDAs, Palm Pilots, BlackBerry Phones, Laptops, Organizers and so forth and doesn’t it seem that we get even less done than ever? Do you know why? The world is full of distractions, taking our focus away from what we should really be accomplishing. To accomplish our most important objectives for the day, we need to have laser-targeted focus. Do you really know why those people that always have all the gadgets get done less with those with a simple pad and paper. It’s simple, different levels of focus.
Another time killer is the way people like to multi-task so often. Here’s a secret, it’s been proven that constant multi-tasking actually lowers your IQ. Ever notice when you are trying to do three things at once, sometimes you can’t even remember what you need to do for one of the tasks. It’s because your brain doesn’t know what you want to Focus on the most. Instead of Multi-tasking, have very good Focus in accomplishing one goal in small bit size chunks of time. So, let’s say you want to write a report on something. You concentrate on that in one-hour blocks of time at a time until completed and then move on to something else. This should be done without the TV or Radio on as well.
Is it any wonder that most entrepreneurs fail today? Most get so excited about money making opportunities that they try to concentrate on everything, and at the end of the day they end up doing nothing well. So, have the focus of doing one thing very well and learn everything there is to know on the subject and most important take action to accomplishing your calling. By having focus, you will rise above mediocrity and actually get you to the mastery stage faster in your life. To start on your journey towards managing time effectively, I recommend that you first take an accredited time management certification. This will show you where you are lacking in time management skills and where you are leaking time. Second, I recommend reading ‘E-Myth’ by Michael Gruber to give examples of how entrepreneurs get in trouble without focus and a system and what to do about it. Third, read any book(s) by Peter Drucker, he is a master at breaking down time management fundamentals and will make you a better entrepreneur.
