These strengths of leaders are traits leaders have that many other people don’t. These aren’t powers they inherited from their parents or received by divine application but are merely abilities they have that enables them to influence others. These strengths leaders have are available to each of us though we often don’t feel they are worth the effort to acquire them, causing us to be secondary leaders or followers instead.
There are three primary strengths leaders possess or are striving to add to their characteristics. These strengths of leaders are the strength of self-mastery, the strength of action, and the strength of relationships. Each of these is in itself an important part of the leader but by allowing them to support and build upon each other they are the foundation required to effectively lead those around you to massive action.
The order in which these strengths of leaders are listed is important because without the first one, strength of self-mastery, the others cannot be effective. Self-mastery is broadly considered as self-control; the problem with that definition is that it doesn’t take the factor far enough. Controlling yourself can include the least amount of restraint, such as stopping an unfavorable habit. Self-mastery requires a person to totally be in command of themselves, completely having you in subjection to your own goals and objectives. This encompasses everything in life and gives the power to restrain distractions and interruptions that permit better focus on our goals and objectives. Self-mastery requires time and effort but it will allow us to attain our desired results much quicker.
Strength of action is the portion we often dread and postpone. It requires us to do something that may be uncomfortable for us. Without action, preparation is a mute point and actually a waste of time. There is no need to prepare for something if you never apply it the situation. The strength of these actions isn’t just doing something but doing what is required to move you closer to your final goal. Each of us is busy but how often are we unproductive in the use of our time. If we aren’t moving forward we are moving backward, there is no way to stay where we are without losing our vision for advancement.
The strength of relationships is last but by no means least. After we have mastered ourselves and applied the required actions to achieve our goals the next step is to be available to connect with others. As we take actions people will see your purpose and will be drawn to your cause. When this happens we must be able and more importantly willing to interact with those individuals. There will be no need to convince them to join you or to “sell” them, you should only be a person with common interests and create a place for communication. In order to have friends you must be friendly, that is what causes others to be drawn to you. If you require people to be involved in your goal, give them a reason to want your association, be a good communicator.
The strengths of leaders, the strength of self-mastery, the strength of action, and the strength of relationships are only the beginning of learning to lead. If you can acquire these attributes you will be well on your way to being the leader you wish to be and more importantly you will have a strong start toward achieving your goals. The place begin changing your circumstances is within yourself, be the master of your dreams.
