Energy Psychology, or ‘tapping’ as it’s popularly known, comes in many flavours. Most people are most familiar with Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT, where you tap on the end points of 9 different meridians while repeating a phrase that reminds you of the problem you’re trying to dissolve.
EFT can be great, especially if you’re applying it to yourself, and you have a lot of patience. But if you don’t have two hours to work on your anger – or you don’t even know that you’re angry in the first place – then other things could work better for you.
One of them is called the ‘TAT’ pose, TAT standing for: Tapas Acupressure Technique.
I like TAT for a few reasons:
1) It’s much simpler to do than EFT. You simply hold three points at the bridge of your nose, and place your other hand over the back of your head.
2) It actively includes God in the process, and gives Him some space to work His miracles and magic in your sub-conscious psyche
3) It can solve issues at a much deeper level, even if the person doing the TAT pose has no idea what, specifically, is the problem.
The only drawback I’ve experienced with TAT is that the ‘pose’ is very powerful, and not everyone can hold it for long. But even when people can’t hold it for the minimum minute officially required, it still seems to work to dissipate negative emotions and feelings, and leave you feeling changed and somehow ‘lighter’.
In spiritual work, as in life, the more effort you put in to the process, the more you get out of it. I’m not suggesting for a minute that doing TAT will solve all your problems instantly. Life’s not like that. But what it does do is open your subconscious up to God, and to hope, and to healing, in a very gentle, subtle way.
You’ll stop obsessing over that past hurt; you’ll stop subconsciously reacting to that very painful incident from childhood; you’ll start to develop a deep sense of trust, and self-acceptance, and belief that things do change, and can get better again.
You only have to get that understanding once for it to suddenly click, on a profound level, that things – even very painful, difficult, impossible-to-cope-with things – don’ t have to continue hurting us for ever.
