This gives everyone something to focus their energy and attention on for the duration of the program and also allows people to be able to judge if they “got what they came fo images (3)r”. This is very important and something I still get people to do BUT not first up… there is something I believe far more important to do.

Having spent thousands of hours training and coaching tens of thousands of people in twelve countries over the last 6 years I have come to a few major realisations about what causes people to create the life and results they want or they life and results they don’t. One of these realisations is the purpose of this article and the reason I get Students to decide on, define and commit to a “reward & celebration” for attending and achieving instead of a goal upfront and before any work commences.

This is what I have discovered… most people are GREAT at setting goals (perhaps not the best goals but still good at setting them); what they are not so great at is allowing themselves to be rewarded or celebrating their own successes. There’s an old saying, “what gets rewarded gets repeated”. By rewarding ourselves and CELEBRATING EVERYTHING we generate a positive cycle of energy geared toward repeating the “success sequence” – that is, the focus, attention and action that led to the result.

It is critical to decide in advance on the reward/celebration to be received when the result is achieved. This is a conscious decision that when time arrives to receive the reward your unconscious mind will accept without question the linkage. It will also accept the value of your contribution to the result and your own worth in receiving the reward.

Sometimes what happens is that people will be in the middle of “giving themselves a treat” and they’ll think that perhaps what ever it is they are doing is really and truly a “reward” for a previous achievement… DON’T DO THIS! What they’re really doing is making an excuse for accepting the little luxury in their lives and thereby degrading the value of their own work and effort as well as the result achieved. They are also downgrading the own worth by setting up the internal and perhaps unconscious belief system that they need an excuse to “treat themselves”. It’s okay to have a “just because… ” reward or celebration – just because you can! Surely, there’s enough you have done in the past that has gone unseen, unmentioned, unheralded and unrewarded that you truly do deserve to pamper or care for yourself every now and then (or a lot more often than that).

I encourage Clients and Students to do this now – List out the current goals or objectives you have in place.
1. Along side each one, determine, decide and define on a reward or celebration for the achievement of each one.
2. Go ahead and schedule in any of the rewards you can now so that you are not working to a “deadline” but rather to a celebration of achievement.

Take the little 3-part exercise above and give it a go yourself. Start with the top 5 current goals or objectives you have and work from there. Oh – one more thingimages (2) – share… share that you are rewarding yourself for your achievements and allow others to join in your celebrations. This works! Go do it!!
