In today’s world, maintaining a high quality, relevant website is important for business owners who want to continually connect with and convert prospects in the online domain. In recognizing this reality, I hastily threw together a website so I could begin communicating with prospects and advertising my products. What I didn’t realize was that merely putting a website together was not enough. To really excel in the ecommerce sector, my website needed to be unequivocally incredible. Once I recognized this reality, I took strides to save my website from the mediocre entity that it had become. Below are some of the strategies that I implemented to take the quality of my website from average to amazing:
1. I Consistently Developed Great Content.
One of my first steps in saving my website was consistently developing great content. This step was imperative given that content is still king in the internet marketing sector. When people go online, they use a business owner’s content to learn more about products and get a feel for things like the company culture. Without continually posting relevant, interesting, information-rich content on a website, business owners run the risk of losing their audience and thereby compromising their conversion rates.
Once I recognized this fact, I began looking for strategies to take the quality of my content up several notches. After learning that most online readers scan content rather than reading it in entirety, I began integrating textual elements like headers and bullet points into my content. I also focused on integrating informative and/or aesthetically appealing images into the content. To kill both birds with one stone, I began using infographics regularly.
2. I Included Compelling Calls To Action.
One key to success with the website optimization process is continually motivating the site visitor to complete some action that results in a purchase, enhanced brand awareness, or some other process that builds the brand. Without compelling calls to action, this process won’t transpire. As such, I began focusing on putting together concise, clever calls to action so that the site visitor would move beyond merely browsing the website and opt to buy something, share my line with other people, sign up for a newsletter, etc. One call to action that I found effective was “Buy my ebook by 11:59 PM and save 50%.” This call to action was time-sensitive and included a discount, thereby motivating the reader to make a purchase now rather than later.
3. I Optimized Engagement.
Another strategy I used to save my website was optimizing engagement. This process is immensely important because the more actively involved the prospect becomes with a brand, the more likely they are to make purchases. Luckily, there are hundreds of strategies that business owners could use to optimize engagement on their websites. One is the use of online reviews. The majority of consumers now think these reviews are just as valid as the traditional recommendation. Moreover, these online reviews show a business owner’s audience that she or he is truly interested in learning what they can do to make the customer’s user experience as helpful as possible.
4. I Requested Customer Feedback About The Website.
One final strategy I used to save my website was consistently requesting customer feedback. No matter how savvy I became with things like template use and video production, I couldn’t fully understand what was going on in the minds of my customers until I started asking them. Requesting customer feedback enables you to learn what your clients like. This can include anything from which products they find most beneficial to which parts of your website they enjoy the most.
Once I started requesting customer feedback, I figured out how to structure the website in a manner that was more conducive to their needs and values. For example, requesting customer feedback led me to understand that over 60% of my site visitors regularly accessed my site through electronic devices. This is when I realized that I had to start incorporating responsive web design services into my site optimization process. It was also by obtaining customer feedback that I learned how concerned many of my clients were with website security. In response, I began utilizing endpoint detection and response services to help me reduce susceptibility to hacking, external attacks, and insider threats that could compromise the security of customer information.
