It is never easy for a single father to try to raise a home full of daughters. There are certain things that a dad will simply not ever be able to do, no matter how hard he tries. One thing that is extremely important for single fathers, however, is to understand your kids. You need to understand where they are coming from and they need to see that you understand that. So here is a breakdown on daughters in 600 words or less.
Sleep is so incredibly important for teenagers and they often don’t realize it. If you are going to make an investment on your daughters, try investing in something like a new mattress. They may not love you for it at first, but after finding themselves more energetic day after day, the love will come!
To girls growing up in high school life is all about the social sphere. How well will they fit in with their friends? Just as importantly, how well will they fit in with those that are not their friends?
Teenagers are often extremely insecure and have a perception that they are being judged, when often they are not. This perception leads them to feel pressure to dress and act certain ways. They often do not realize that many of their friends and peers would accept them just how they are if they only knew.
In nothing can this be seen more than in clothes. Your daughter will come to you one day asking for money for hair extensions or something else that you may find completely useless. It is important that you ignore your instinct to laugh off something that you may find nonsensical, and instead accept that your daughters live in a world you cannot imagine.
Hopefully you have two daughters. If this is the case you can always have one daughter help you find gifts for her sister. This will make things much easier on birthdays etc. as you try to figure out what your teenage daughters want.
It is important for teenagers to work and learn to work. Even if you just make them do their homework every single night, at least you are doing something. If possible try to make sure every teenage child is doing their part to make the house a clean happy place to live. Help your kids to realize that there is actually a really good feeling that comes when a hard job is complete and done well.
This doesn’t mean you harp or rag on them when they do not do a good job, it means you help them to develop a passion for doing hard work and doing it well. It is extremely hard to do, but yields incredible results.
Teenage girls need sleep! Far too often they let school, homework, and their social life take priority over sleep and they suffer for it. It has been proven that getting enough sleep can help in emotional and mental health as well as physical health. Sleep can even cause skin and hair to look more healthy!
Set curfews and stick by them. Sure, your teenage girls will be unhappy with it. But as long as the rule is set in stone and they know no different, it will likely not be too bad.
What a tough thing it can be to be a single parent! Always remember that it will be worth it in the end when your kids grow up and make you proud.
